My Healthy Lifestyle Resolutions for 2014
Posted on: Thursday, 2 January 2014
As part of my 14 things for 2014, I've decided to focus on living a healthier lifestyle.
For me, this involves losing weight and improving my fitness, so I have set myself targets to hit along the way which will hopefully keep me on track.
I've decided to share my targets on my blog to keep me motivated and act as a permanent reminder if I ever start to slack. So here they are...
01. Keep a healthy mindset
Mindset determines behaviour. Unless somebody has a gun to my head making me eat the cheeseburger, then there's no reason why I can't opt for the salad instead. Likewise with the amount I eat - I'm not going to starve if I don't finish all the food on the plate, if I'm full, I need to put the cutlery down and walk away.
02. Keep hydrated
Dehydration causes headaches, body and joint pain, heartburn, etc. and I'm the first to admit I drink nowhere near enough water as I should each day. I also notice the difference in myself when I do drink water throughout the day.
03. Optimal nutrition
I actually have a GCSE in food technology and knowledge of food groups and healthy eating, which is why it's embarrassing that I've been stuffing my face with takeaways over the last few months. Therefore I'm making a conscious effort to make the right decisions and eat healthily.
03. Exercise
Sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day and then in front of a TV, is not what the human body designed to do. I'm tight on the pennies at the moment and spend a lot of time staying at my boyfriend's, so it would be hard for me to commit to a gym near home or work. Therefore I'm going to focus on exercising at home for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, 3 times a week. Then I'll move on to weights.
03. Rest
I will start getting myself into a routine of eight hours sleep every night to keep my body fresh and alert. I'll also make sure I don't get too keen and overdo it with the exercise.
Just as a point of interest, inadequate sleep has been linked with weight gain among other health risks.
